City of Madison
All youth between the ages of 12-16 who would have previously received a non traffic municipal ticket in the City of Madison are referred to participate in Restorative Justice circle process instead of appearing in court, paying a fine, and having a criminal record.
Youth participate in a circle process led by Restorative Justice coordinators at the YWCA, Dane County TimeBank, or Briarpatch Youth Services where they are given the opportunity to share their stories and feelings about the event that occurred, reflect on the harm created from the situation and their experience with law enforcement, and make agreements to repair harm and continue their success in life. Upon completion of their agreement, the ticket is not entered on to the youth's record.
If you or a young person in your family has been referred to restorative justice by a Madison police officer, please connect with the RJ Intake Coordinator, Andria Chatmon
(608) 608-205-8267 or email achatmon@ywcamadison.org
